Quizzes improve learning performance

A study of Midwestern middle school science students suggests practice might make perfect. New research from WUSTL shows that students who received three quizzes on content questions before a unit test performed at the “A” level on those test questions, compared with a “C” level on questions that were not quizzed but still on the test. Appointments are available for the campus-wide blood drive Wednesday, March 30, at multiple locations on the Danforth, Medical and West campuses.   • Emergency siren test 1:30 p.m. today. WUSTL will test its emergency sirens at 1:30 p.m. today, March 10, as part of a Missouri statewide tornado drill. The test originally was scheduled for March 8 but was rescheduled due to weather. Today’s test will take place unless there is the potential for severe weather or some other emergency is occurring.   • Women’s tennis defeats Kalamazoo. The No. 16 women’s tennis team improved to 3-1 overall after an 8-1 victory over Kalamazoo College March 5. Next, the Bears embark on a spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., where WUSTL will compete in six matches, including two against NCAA Central Region foes and two against NCAA Division I programs. Competition begins Sunday, March 13, when WUSTL takes on University of Wisconsin-Stout.
